Water can be an amazing and therapeutic addition in the lives of those facing special challenges. The learning ability varies as greatly as our students themselves. The instructor’s first focus is on getting the participant comfortable in water while also introducing water-safety skills. Using a fun, gentle approach (for example, visual cards) can help students learn to put their face in water, submerge, blow bubbles and kick. These basics will prepare the participant to learn more advanced skills, such as to float and to glide. Depending on the ability, the student may move on to learning the coordination of arm and leg patterns.
Our goal for special needs lessons is to teach basic safety skills, while helping you become comfortable in water. We are proud to guide you in reaching goals that are developmentally appropriate. Let us support you along your way to become a safe swimmer in your familiar environment and at your own pace.
