HOW MANY LESSONS DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM?

Young children, aged between 18 months to 3 years, who get private lessons can generally swim confidently within 12 months. It takes most 3-5-year-old students 20 to 30 lessons to swim well enough to get across a small pool (15 feet wide) and perform basic safety swimming skills. For a 6-9-year-old, it usually takes anywhere from eight to 20 lessons.

Besides frequency on the priority list for little swimmers should be consistency. Consistency is Number One! If you can commit to two or three private swim lessons per week, your child’s swimming ability, comfort, progress and retention of skills are sure to be accelerated. It’s always important to remember individualization when it comes to child development. An average child will most likely flourish in private swim lessons two or three times per week. So when you think about child development and swimming lessons for kids, it’s important to remember that consistency – and frequency – go a long way. The general rule is that the more swim lessons your child gets, the faster they’ll progress and retain what they’re learning.

For adults who learn at an average pace, and have no fear of water, around 7-20 hours of lessons should be enough to gain basic swimming skills. For adults who need extra time becoming comfortable in the water, this process may take longer.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIVATE AND GROUP SWIM LESSONS?

Private swim lessons are just for you and your infant/child or one teenager/adult. If you decide to book private swim lessons you can chose between single swim lessons or a 7 lesson package.

Group swim lessons are designed for parents who like to form their own group of Mommies (or Daddies) and children of a party of at least 2 adults plus children or more (taught AT THE SAME time in ONE GROUP). Minimum participants for Group swim classes for children, teenagers, and adults are 2 students.

WHAT DIFFERENT LESSONS AND PACKAGES ARE BEING OFFERED?

You can choose between single swim lessons or a 7 lesson package after successful completion of your Introductory Swim Class.

MOMMY & ME or DADDY & ME?

SWIM HAVEN believes Daddies want to participate in their children’s swimming future just as much as Mommies do.

Whether you are a Mom or a Dad and want to book a lesson package and attend a water class with your child – we are here to accommodate your swimming needs and help you bond in water with your little one in a fun way.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD (AND/OR THE PARENT) CAN NOT ATTEND A LESSON (WEATHER, SICKNESS ETC) OR CLIENTS POOL CAN´T BE USED (BAD POOL CONDITIONS, POOL CLOSED ETC)?

We do not offer make up classes for sickness, no-shows or unavailable pools unless the class is canceled due to extreme weather upon decision by the instructor at the time of your class. Lessons cancelled due to weather will be rescheduled at no charge. If a lesson has already begun and needs to be stopped, due to weather, the remaining lesson time will be added to your remaining lessons. If you plan to go on vacation during your swim lesson package please notify SWIM HAVEN upon registration under “additional request” of your travel dates, since only those mentioned in your registration can be honored. Pool temperature must be a minimum of approximately 82 degrees to ensure student comfort and an environment conducive to learning to swim. We reserve the right to cancel or cut short the lesson without refund due to inadequate pool temperature or unsanitary pool conditions. Clients are responsible for availability and good conditions of pool on scheduled day and time. Unavailable pools (no water, chemical issue, pool closure etc) count as a regular lesson and can´t be rescheduled.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE CASE OF POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS ON THE DAY OF THE SCHEDULED LESSON?

In case of bad weather (lightning or extremely dangerous weather) on the day and time of your scheduled lesson, your assigned instructor will decide if class can be taught. If your class has to be cancelled due to weather, you will be rescheduled at no charge. If a lesson has already begun and needs to stopped, due to weather, the remaining lesson time will be added to your remaining lessons. DO YOU OFFER ISR (INFANT SELF-RESCUE)?

Our Mommy/Daddy & Me bonding lessons are not classic Infant Self Rescue (ISR) classes but rather an interactive Mommy or Daddy & Me swim lesson with important safety elements. Our swim lessons are based on a child-centered, caring approach that has its main focus on creating fun and positive time for your baby. It will help them develop physically but also emotionally, intellectually and socially, while equipping them with key safety skills in water.

We have decided to take a gentle approach to our infants/toddlers in our swim lessons in order to avoid potential trauma, which has been shown to hinder future progress. We realize this is not the case with all infants and toddlers, but because of the risks associated with a more aggressive teaching style, SWIM HAVEN´s philosophy in swim lessons is a very gentle and caring teaching style.

However, water safety is very important to SWIM HAVEN and a key element in our Mommy or Daddy & Me lessons. We will teach our mini students fundamental safety and self-rescue exercises.

HOW YOUNG CAN YOU START LESSONS?

We prefer to teach children at least 8 weeks old as they begin to develop responsiveness. Ultimately, this is up to you and your baby. If a parent should request lessons to begin at an earlier age, we are equipped to host such lessons.

IS THERE A MAXIMUM AGE LIMIT?

No – there is no such thing as a maximum age for SWIM HAVEN. We are here to help you reach your goals, regardless of your age or background.

WHAT SAFETY MEASURES (especially with Covid-19) ARE YOU TAKING WHILE TEACHING SWIMMING?

Safety is of the utmost importance. That’s why we are backed by an aquatic insurance policy so you can feel confident in case of an emergency. Instructors are trained on First Aid/ CPR and certified through the American Red Cross. Our instructors will come equipped with a First Aid Kit.

Safety is vital for SWIM HAVEN - not only in and around the pool, but also while teaching during these difficult times. The assigned swimming instructor will be fit, healthy and cautious in teaching your lesson. We have implemented COVID-19 best practices to keep our instructors and your family safe. Each instructor is now required to have their temperature measured prior to arriving at your home, a face mask or shield will be worn through the entire duration of your lesson (when practical).
